So... Just recently moved to a new apartment at my new school and have been using the campus internet.

My wireless internet will be working just fine then at random times... boom... nothing, the signal is gone and I can't repair my connection. At first I figured it was the campus' wireless being stupid but it must be my computer because after I restart, everything is just fine (for a bit)

    I have vista home
    Intel wifi link 5100 AGN

Any simple things I can try to fix this before I resort to calling the campus internet tech?

I just did some googling and say that other people had similar problems. A few of them fixed it by going to the properties of their network adapters and shutting off "allow the computer to turn this off to save power" button

    Lets hope that works.

It did not fix the problem.

Figured out that disabling/re-enabling the wireless adapter gets it working again.

    Still unbelievably annoying though..

    Hi

What Service Pack level is your Vista? SP2 is latest.

Try and see if their is update for your WiFi driver.

How strong is the signal strenght?

Also try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 if doesnt work then you can repeat steps and change the key values back to default (so make note of them) and remember once the registry entries are changed reboot.

EDIT: another thing that jumped into my head is what security applications do you have installed, do you by any chance have ZoneAlarm installed?

How come windows update doesnt offer sp2 download? I found a link for it but was surprised that windows update didnt automatically recommend it.

I'm sorry guys this may be campus-internet related after all. A couple other roomys are having similar problems now. Our theory is the mountains F' up the signal like they do with the cell phones here.

Thanks for the attempted help tho

and I am thinking once again it may be my computer...

signal seems fine and download speed is fine then it just random disconnects.. and no networks are detectable until I disable/enable my wireless network connection

Downloading service pack 2 as we speak but with this random disconnects it is making it harder than normal.

Otherwise I have done all recommendations in this thread so far

Make sure you have the latest Intel drivers installed and double-check your power settings.

What antivirus and firewall do you have installed? What other A/V's and firewalls have been previously installed?

Have you tried disabling N and forcing the adapter to use G only?
