Wireless Repeater Views

Hey guys,

I am currently trying to sort out a wireless connectivity issue for one of my friends. His router is at one end of his house (cabled into his home-pc) and his bedroom is downstairs at the other end of the house, where he uses his laptop and his PS3 wirelessly. The strength of his router is not strong enough to give him a good signal to his room.

I had purchased him a Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender, but to be honest, a way to describe its setup process, its user interface and its functionality, would be abyssmal at best.

I was just wondering if any of you guys would be able to recommend a better repeater, taking value for money into account? Might also be worth mentioning that the router he is using is a LinkSys one.

Any comments/experiences/feedback are most welcome.

Local Staples has a Netgear access point. I've done it once with 3 devices to get across a 3-building complex. Took me a while to make it work but it did.

The newer one has much better reviews saying that it's easier to install now. It's $99, sort of on the higher side of a mid-range solution, but for me, the option of trying it today (local store here carries it) and taking it back tomorrow if I couldn't make it work was worth something too.

Wireless Extender are tricky they usually work OK when the source Wireless Router and the extender are a matching pair of the same Vendor.

Or use any two Routers that can be flashed with the free 3rd party firmware DD-WRT.
