    Specs:
    Decent winXP Machine

in The Explorer I fit the screen untill I only see the tree (usually the left part of the screen), and turn of all the buttons, toolbars and so forth. (please go with me), And put the tree untill I see my drives.

I do this in want of creating a nice structure for my files on my PC.

two things are in my way:

    1. the contol panel
    2. the network area (I don't own a network)

What's to be done to turn them of in my tree?
Tweakui and all regular tweak software doesn't provide these ajustments to the tree.

    1. I press remove for the network area; Solved.
    2. The control Panel; leaves no options for to be turned of in the tree.

I Expect the appearance can be switched off in the registry in some all users part of it.

For Y'all who read this: It is standard and possible to show the control panel in the start menu; right click on start; properties, Menu Start [Ajust], tab advanced, select the appearance you desire; if you have the rights this can be done over and over.

    Big thanks, Ruben

If you are talking about the "Classic" menus that was normal in Win2k, you have to change it to "Classic" mode appearance in Folder Options which is listed "Use Windows Classic Folders".

No man, that's not what I mean.

You know the thing that opens with plusses and minusses?

    That's the tree.

And not only do I want to change / move the content of the drives there,

The Control panel is also listed there, and I don't want it there.

I have been able to exclude everything I don't use in this tree,

    exept for the Control panel

For in my tree I only want my Active drives listed.

Capishe? No I'm Sure someone with quite a lot of registry experience will find it a challenge to help me accomplish my wish, for I have no idea how to my self.

If you are looking at the directory Tree in Explorer, that is one thing, but if you are talking about "Enhanced" menus, that is another.

The Directory Tree will show everything in the menu structure regardless, unless you use "Classic" in Folder Options.

Re: Wish to Adjust my Tree in XP

To add to my post, regardless if you choose "Enhanced" or "Classic", Control Panel will always be listed.

Not sure where you are getting at:

Are you trying to lock down control panel?

If so, and you are using XP pro, you can bring up the policy editor (gpedit.msc), then select: User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, then right click either "Prohibit access to Control Panel" OR "Hide Specified Control Panel Applets"

I do know you want to remove control panel from Explorer. But, can't find a sane reason why you want to do this, except for a "secure" environment.

Another thing to do, is to rename (all *.cpl extensions) or delete them.....
