WLAN / LAN / Access point question

Ok I recently got a new netgear router which i am useing as the new main router , i setup everything, and my old belkin router i moved into the other side of the house to have a strong wifi connection throughout. Everything is setup good on my netgear which is default 192.168.1.X and the belkin is default 192.168.2.X so there should not be a confliction right?

I set up the belkin as an access point and it gave me an IP but when i try to access the belkin access point via that IP it just says connection interruppted, network link was reset while negotiating. Can i not change any of the settings on the router after its set as an access point? can they have diffrent SSID's? the wired connections seem to work with no problem on the access point but i cant seem to log into the access point unless i reset it.

I would like to set up this access point to my new bluesocket wp2000 wifi gateway.. anyone know the default IP to login to a commercial gateway router? i bought it on ebay for 50$ and want to install linux on it or some kind of free gateway software, a friend said it maybe 172.x.x.x something like that maybe like a cisco?

Hi, please can you explain what do you want to do? because you have two different wireless routers, please explain your network idea better !!

 

replace the 2nd (older) router with a switch or wireless access point instead, you only need one thing giving out IPs, using 2 subnets makes it alot harder. or you can disable DHCP on the 2nd router to get the same subnet.
