I have an emachine M5312 and had to reformat the HD and reload XP Home, SP2 and all updates. Everything works fine except the Broadcom wireless connection does not appear in the network connections window. The hardwire connection appears but not the wireless. I've spent a ton of time searching and can't find a solution.

I downloaded the handy little program which shows which programs are running at satartup and here's what I find:

Under the System Idle Process, System, smss.exe, winlogon.exe, services.exe, is the entry: WLTYTSVC.EXE. Every 10 seconds, in a row right below it, the entry BCMWLTRY.EXE appears again in the form of a green bar for .5 Sec and then a red bar for .5 sec, showing the Discription (Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter Wireless Network Controller and the company, Broadcom Corporation. I suppose it is trying to start but for whatever reason, cannot and shuts off.

Under explorer.exe are 2 Broadcom entries, BCMWLTRY.EXE and WLTRAY.exe. My guess the latter puts an icon in the system tray.

OK, How do I get with wireless connection to appear? Going through the Wireless setup process doesn't do it.

Hi forskare and welcome to MGs,
Have you checked in Device Manager under network adapters to see if you have any indications of problems?
You might want to see if there are any newer drivers or try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the wireless. Check support at emachines or Broadcom for drivers.

Hello, Thanks for the suggestions. DM-Yes, Broadcom is there w/no problems although it doesn't say wireless. Uninstall, Remove, reinstall, Let windows find it, download drivers, Broadcom support; Oh my, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. Emachines? Hmmm. Well, no. I'll check to see if Gateway is still providing the Emachine support and advise. Cross your fingers. :cool
