WMP 11 issue playing videos

    I took an .mp4 video with my cell phone (Samsung S3) and it pays fine on the phone. I then copied the file to my computer (XP) and when I play it with Windows Media Player 11 it just plays a kaleidoscope of colors. Anyone know why this is happening? It's just an .mp4 file.

    Update: I tried opening/viewing the video I need as well as two others in Kies for Samsung with the same results. They are on the phone, and now computer as well and showing as .mp4 files. It's frustrating because the video file I need shows flooding damage done to our townhouse that I need to send to the homeowners association. So far I can only play it on my phone.
