    Hi

Moved your post to its own from the old post to here.

Steps are a little simpler for you in Windows 7, just click the Start orb and type in the Start Search box services and it will show in the list, just click it (icon looks like two blue cogs) then go down the list of services until you find WMPNetworkSvc and stop it and set its startup type to disabled.

Longer way is to click Start > Control Panel > System And Security and then Administrative Tools > Services

    Hi Tony

Not a pain at all, so dont ever think that, just ask your questions, even if you think they maybe simple to some, if you dont know you dont know.

But back to your additional question, yes, its very possible that your PC is starting with many applications starting up that dont need to, say MSN Messeneger, Java/Quicktime/Adobe etc updaters and other applications. What you can do to try and reduce the really un needed applications is to disable or remove them from starting up in the first place, as you can manually start them if you want to use them from the Start menu.

and we can see what startups you can disable or delete, you can also check on the startups yourself HERE if you wish.

Application we may use to disable any startups will be StartupCPL as I have not as yet tested it or another one I have to test to see if the application earlier uses MSCONFIG to manage startups and there are a few reasons why not to use this route to disable startups.

You can go into each program's configuration and tell it not to load on system startup. It's different in each program. If you don't the program will probably put itself back into your startup options when you run it. Really it's about what you use. Personally, I'd uninstall google toolbar and get rid of the software updater (java, openoffice, quicktime, adobe downloader, EOA dowloader, etc.) entries.

I can't help you on startups but I can say that W7, along with Vista, normally use about %50 of your memory, I have 4GB , a big departure from the XP philosophy. Vista and W7 are very good at relinquishing memory so don't worry about them using your memory as it makes the OS respond faster. If you go way over %50 then you might want to reduce your startups.
