alright well it never did this until right now... not sure how to change it back.

But i will downloading and saving a WMV file and usually the box pops up , asks where i want to save the file and downloads it to that location. But all of a sudden when i click the wmv file it open Windows media player and then i have to go to Save as to download it.

what changed? how do i change it so it downloads it first and doesnt open WMP

    Thanks in advance

depends on what web browser you are using firefox when you click on the download link make sure that the save file box is checked and not the open with box if you are using internet explorer just click save and not run in the dialog box that comes up when you click on the download link

gday again me myself i don't use internet explorer to many bugs and not very user friendly but i had a look through internet settings just check if the download settings are all enabled go to start control panel click on internet options click on the security tab down the bottom you will see custom settings click on the tab a dialog box will appear hit the resset button and click ok see if this helps for a better web browser that is more user friendly may suggest mozilla firefox you can get it from this link " http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2248 " hope this helps

    I just found a solution

Go to My Computers > Tools > Folder Options

Then File Types Tab > Go Under whatever file this case WMV > Click it > Advanced > Restore Default > Put Open > Check the Confirm Open After download.

Done , dont know what changed mine to play..

Wow, they don't make that easy. I was looking around in file associations but thought that was only for Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer.

Thanks for posting back on the fix. :)
