I love pictures where the wolf/wolves are looking at the photographer, gives you a sense they're looking right into your eyes... I have a wolf photograph hanging above the toilet in the bathroom... gives you something to look at while you're wizzin' =]

    some other cool pics:

oooooh! have you seen the wolf? what's their demeanor like with people? i'd assume they'd act much like a dog would? does your friend have any pics of the wolf on the internet? details please =]

    rogvalcox MajorGeek

Yes...I've played with it myself!!!! It was kind of like a dog body...with a cat mentality!!!! But once you got it to play with you it was fun!!! He wasn't mean at all and obeyed somewhat (keep in mind the cat mentality) but the only thing I didn't like was the fact that their fur is very coarse...or altleast this one was!!

And no...unfortunately I have no pictures to show you. :(

I saw a special on the DSC channel some time ago about a husband and wife couple who tracked wolves... This one particular pack, they had raised some of the wolf pups themselves... And they would travel and track this pack from time to time... It was amazing. This guy would literally howl/call to the wolves at night and they would respond to him. At one point, he met up with them and the wolves embraced him like dogs embrace their owners. He sat on the ground as the wolves came up and licked his face. They were totally aware of who he was and were clearly affectionate with him.

When my daughter is older, I'm going to move towards the north and buy wolf mix. They're legal as long as they're a certain percentage of dog. Pick one very young and raise it like family. But not until I live far away from the city and everyone in it.

One of our dogs is part wolf. Rest is german shepherd. He looks that 3rd picture down, only not as dark. He has more white.
I tried to scan in a picture of him, but my scanner isn't working right now. If I get it to scan, I will post it.

The wolf I played with was VERY much like a german shepard, but it seems as though a wolves head is more roundish with the snout sticking out...whereas a dogs head/snout is more elongated (word of the day!!)!!

:) Wolves are the bomb! There is no other creature in this world that commands so much respect and admiration. I have wolf pics as well and I rather enjoy just gazing at them.

Hi gal... you could use teh Manage Attachments button after you start a new post to upload the picture, or, if you want to use those tags you'll have to have it hosted somewhere... I recommend www.photobucket.com , free, no popups, and very easy to use.... can't wait to see the pic...

and Liberal funny that u should use the word gaze, Wolfgaze is my Ebay handle, i love their gaze as well =]

    @ Anhedonic

Their gaze makes me want to simply bow to them. I think that they are just absolutely wonderous. Even the females have the "Alpha :D Male" attitude and look. Majestic!

By the way, I have one of the pics you posted inside my locker at work. ;)

I have also looked for a pattern for some ink but so far cannot find one that gives the animal justice.

    This should work this time.

His name is Cain. He will be 2 years old at Christmas. He is very good with our children, but I wouldn't want to be anyone trying to hurt them.;)

OK. I'll drop him a line, but I'm sure he wont mind. he is very isolated where he is, so he appreciates communication. don't know if hes hooked to the net though, or if he has to wait to go to town, so it may take a little time.

I love wolves as well. Other than (some) domesticated breeds they are my favorite canines. However, I must caution you on having full bred wolves as pets. I have kept many different types of wild animals as pets and even those that I have raised and bottle fed can revert to their "wild" state quite easily and unexpectedly (remember Sigmund and Roy and their supposed "tame" white tiger). The things you MUST remember about wild animals that you attempt to domesticate is that they are still wild. They DO NOT have the centuries of domestication bred into them like our house cats and domesticated dog breeds. Be EXTREMELY cautious with them when they are around anyone outside of thier family "pack" and be aware that they are VERY MUCH pack animals and will seek out and take their place in the pack hierarchy. The pack hierarchy is very much at flux at the best of times and as such there are always challenges for authority. There is no place for any other alpha male or alpha female but yourself! My sister (Debbie, now departed), had a 3/4 wolf for a pet in southern Illinois. He was the best behaved "dog" that I had met outside of my own but even she did not completely trust him.

Just do yourself a favor and NEVER forget what they are, an animal that is just one step away from being wild and therefore caution needs to be used with them. Other than that, if you insist on getting one for a pet, raise it from a pup. Bottle feed it and love it like no other and NEVER physically punish it in a manner that is not in accordance to "pack rules." If you don't know what I mean by "pack rules" spend a LOT of time observing canine behavior (preferrably wolf) to find out just how they reprimand their pups and members. Use that as your guide for raising your own. BTW, I feel that this is the way to raise ANY animal, domestic or wild.

And if you are curious about my credentials with raising wild(*) and domestic animals, here's the short list :)

    1. Uromastix (spiny tailed lizards - various breeds)*
    2. Leopard Geckos*
    3. Savannah Monitor*
    4. Cockatiel
    5. Kingsnakes*
    6. Corn Snakes*
    7. Bull Snakes*
    8. Ball Pythons*
    9. Turtles (various breeds)*
    10. Dogs (various breeds)
    11. Cats (various breeds including one 1/2 wildcat)*
    12. Forest Genet (member of the Mongoose family)*

and others as well. Good luck with your choice but I highly, highly recommend a mixed wolf as you will have less trouble with them in both thier behavior and with the legal system as well. Oh and BTW, if (heaven forbid) your wolf EVER bites anyone, the legal system will insist on the animal being destroyed NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE OF THE ATTACK. It's just the way that society views keeping wild animals (and no, it's not right but it is true). Good luck!

thats very good advice wraith. i feel that way about domestic dogs. never mind wild ones. my big dog boyzie is a good example. he could not be better behaved or better trained, but i am always aware of the fact that he is an un-neutered very powerful male animal. he never fights unless another dog actually attacks him, but he kicks ass when he does. he doesn't growl at people, or raise his hackles or even curl his lip....but there is something inherently aggressive about any male animal (including humans) that raises himself to his greatest hight and looks at you with that 'wanna try?' look, and he does that often. (not to me of course). cats are even more unpredictable, but of course the propensity for damage is less. much aloha

good info Wraith... i think the likelihood of me ever owning a dog that is even part wolf is slim... i'm much more likely to get a German Sheppard or a Siberian Husky when the time comes... just curious, what types of dogs have you raised and do you have any pics you can post?

    Thanks.

  31. Shadowchaser

    Shadowchaser A Really Great Guy

Types of dogs I've raised are as follows:

    1. English Collie (like Lassie)
    2. Border Collie
    3. Cocker Spaniel (tri color mixed with mutt)
    4. German Shepard/Collie mix
    5. Rottweiller/Shepard mix

Will try to round up some photos later on. Currently have the last two on the list. I only train by using the pack hierarchy method (establish dominance through aggressive stance and such, don't believe in beating ANY animal into submission.)
