I'm new at this so I hope I'm doing this right. Please forgive me if I'm not. My computer is running very slow. Programs seem to be taking forever to come up. My stats: 900 mhz, pentium III, 256mg ram, and I'm running windows xp. I got the computer from my mother about a year ago and it wasn't running necessarily right then, but seems to have gotten worse. I have done your "read me first" thread and have followed steps exactly. x

my child posted the previous thread before it was finished... so sorry. In continuing, spybot found three items which if fixed, windows defender found nothing. I have attached three logs including HJT. If you could tell me if there is anything I need to correct I would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance...

I did run bitdefender. I also ran panda but did not get the screen where I could save the report. I started it scanning, realized it would take a while and left the room. Later when I went back the panda screen wasn't up anymore, anywhere. Searched for the activescan.txt file and it wasn't on the computer anywhere. I can try running it again and see what happens, but in the meantime, I have attaced bitdefender file.

I just finished panda online scan again. The popup window states "no viruses or other malicious software have been found." It doesn't look like there is anywhere to save the scan on either window that is up.

Your problem is not malware. It is a resource hog named McAfee that is killing you. Your PC is way too slow and has way too little RAM to even think about running McAfee Security Suite. Dump McAfee and use the free antivirus and firewalls listed in the below:

Thanks chaselang. McAfee was a free download from my cable provider. Didn't realize it was a hog. I had Norton before but didn't care for it either. I'm glad you suggested others.

You're welcome. Both Norton and McAfee are hogs. So are many of the other Internet Security Suite tools that other companies offer (like F-protect) Many cable companies are starting to provide these free of charge and in my experience, everyone coming here complaining about their PC being slow is only experiencing this problem due to these security suites being installed.
