wont boot

Ok, Ok, Call me a NOOB. I just installed a new motherboard in the wifes computer and I can not get XP to start. The first couple of screens will start ( the ones that list everything) and then it repeats this and will not get to the windows loading screen. Please help because if wifes not happy ... noones happy:cry

 

From your description, it appears that you simply removed one motherboard and installed a new one. If the new one is not EXACTLY the same as the old one, Windows will not boot and will crash. When Windows is faced with a sudden and extreme hardware change (like swapping motherboards), it freaks out because all the installed drivers and system files suddenly can't communicate with the hardware in the same way. Luckily, this is normally easily fixed by performing a safe Windows repair install using your XP install CD and the steps in this article. When performed correctly, there is little-to-no chance of data loss. If you don't have your XP install CD, you can borrow one from a friend as long as it's the same version you have on your PC and the same version as the product key you have (this should be on a sticker on the PC case; usually on one of the sides or on the rear of the case), for example, the PC has XP Home so you'd need an XP Home install disc and the product key must be for XP Home. If you don't have a product key, then you'd need to recover it. This is a fairly involved process on a non-booting PC, but if needed, I can provide a step-by-step, but a product key with no CD does you little good, and a CD with no product key does little good.
