I am having network issues I don't understand. When I try to copy a file from 1 pc to the other over the network it almost finishes and then throws up an error telling me it can't copy the file. Cyclic Redundancy error I believe. But even when I tried to copy the files to a disc and dump them , it wouldnt let me dump them onto the pc from a disc either......does anyone know whats going on. I ran the network wizard and have the pc's on the same name and everything. I dont get it!!!!Please help.TY.

    Hi djm,
can you list your network specs? is it in a workgroup? Do you have the full permission on both of the pcs? are they both using same user name and password? What OS are they using?
Also, can you check to see if you are having same problem with any other files or just this one specific file?

well it is all files that do it....how can i delete all existing networks and just start from scratch? when i go to copy the files it lags for a few minutes and then takes off, but gets down to about 5 seconds left then throws the error. It is in a workgroup, and the name is the same. as far as i know i have full permission on both pc's and they r using xp home. I want to delete everything and start from scratch if there is a way. That way i can just reset everything where it needs to be and nothing else on there to confuse me....can someone walk me through it?

Could you please explain this statement?

I think, when he's saying "it's on the same name", he made the workgroup's name uniformed. Which put them on the same workgroup.
    djm,
I don't think you need to delete any existing network. First of all, you are only in a workgroup. Not really complicated LAN. Also, you're using XP home on both computers. So home networking for file and printer sharing is not that complicated.
I need you to do some test for me.
Can you make a new folder on 1 pc, and make it shared? Put a NEW file, like a txt file. and see if you can see from the other PC. see if you can copy/access the file.

Perhaps we need to take smaller steps here......

On each machine create a directory called TEMP at the root of c:.

Copy, not move, a file to the c:\TEMP directory on each machine. If both machine can copy files within themselves.....then move to network shares.

Please explain your network. How are the machines connected to the network...hub...switch....router?

ok. we're getting somewhere now. Slowly but surely.
I'm assuming you have enough free space on your HDD for both PCs.
And also assuming you're networked by some kind of swith/hub/router - wired.
If you're wireless, let me know - then probably security issue.
First, check to see "who" you're logged in as. - administrator? dmj? david? admin? on both PCs. if user names are different, make sure you add the other to your User Accounts section and give it full access - just to make sure user access is there.
Next, if you're using norton internet security or same sort, disable it temporaly and try accessing the file.
Next, check the property of the shared folder/file and see if it's checked on read only - if it is, give it full permission.

let me know of the results

using a wireless router and an internal net. adapter

if you're on a wireless network, it's maybe a security issue.
Do you have "norton internet security" or something like that?
If you encrypted your wireless connection, make sure you are using same key and security settings on both of the computers.
