Won't Recognize Printer(s)

Good Day All -
A friends pc(Win XP Home) will not recognize any usb printer that is connected. Was working fine, conn to HP 4200 Series. PC sees Printer and changes status to "Ready" when printer is turned on, however we can't print and nothing shows in queue. Deleted printer and tried to recapture, but now it is not recognized at all by plug n play. Swapped usb cables...no luck. Wen't to wife's printer and tried to connect, but printer (HP 7200) is not recognized as being connected.
???
Are we missing something?

You might try reinstalling the HP drivers. On some USB printers, you need to install the drivers before you connect the USB cable. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpy21106.pdf

Driver reinstalled but still no luck. Worked fine until recently. Installed second printer, but no recognized again.
