My son was given an older Dell Pc, he plugged it in last night and it started, though he didn't do anything with it. He shut it off, but now it does nothing at all when you try to turn it on. I could find only one fuse, it was in the power supply and it was good. How do I check the power supply? Is there anything else I can check? This is an old PC and not worth putting any $ into, the only # I could find on it was 9CV8Y. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple.
    Thanks

It doesn't sound good -- if it's not the power supply, it'll likely be another part that has decided to pack it in.

To check a power supply, I'd usually suggest either try it in another machine, or swap in another PSU from somewhere else. But Dell has been known to use PSUs/motherboards with a proprietary connection scheme. If this is one of them, swapping in a standard PSU will probably do nasty things to the Dell mobo. Trying the Dell PSU in another machine may do nasty things to the other machine.
