Anyone know anything about www.woot.com? my friend said its credible and legit, looks like it. The deals there are CRAZY, seems too good to be true. A Razer Pro Gaming mouse for $25? Im skeptical.....

Have bought from them a dozen times. Never a problem. And always $5 S&H, no matter what the item-- even big screen plasma TVs.

There is a maximum of 3 items, and you'd have to be pretty quick as the stuff sells fast.

Pity it's only for the US.

And forget customer support. They say on their site that if you don't like it, sell it on eBay.

One more thing, although it's a good deal, it's not really a gaming mouse.

I thought only the DiamondBacks or Pros were technically gaming meece?

(probably has the same engine anyway)

I have purchased from woot before with no problems, but I would urge everyone to take note of what they sell that is new and what they sell that is REFURBISHED... sometimes there is a reason the stuff is so much cheaper.

Their stuff is cheap, but they tend to exaggerate about the performance and quality.

yea, id be kinda skeptical to buy some product from some company ive never heard of before, no matter how cool it may be :) But from a reputable brand name product as a Razer mouse, im more than happy to dish out the cash :D

The other day they had a cappuccino machine for $19.99, and they were saying it was the best.

Coffee machines are ridiculously expensive, well over $300 for a decent branded machine.

    BTW, Adrynalyne's got w0OT. :)

I feel the need to comment on the allegations of exaggerated product claims. I have to think woot's brand of tongue-in-cheek humor is just lost on a few folks.

Regarding the wine division, woot's first foray into wine was last year when they offered a Sonoma-sourced private label Tuscan blend they called "Rinfrescante" (refreshing), whose label featured a cherubic figure dancing on an F5 key (refresh-- get it?). It was about $12 per bottle IIRC, and was actually some damn fine stuff for the money.

I get their attempts at humour, but explain calling a white Razor mouse a gaming mouse?

  16. Jamiko

    Jamiko Sergeant

That mouse was a Razer Pro so I think it qualifies to be called a gaming mouse.

I've used Woot a few times when the deal is good. Sometimes the products are refurbished and it will say that but it's not always obvious. I have had no complaints about Woot and I would order from them again.

I'd say they are trustworthy and have a great sense of humor. But by all means, do a little research before you buy anything.

Says who? Even Razer don't say that on their website

As far as I know, only DiamondBacks are gaming meece, and this isn't a DiamondBack, even if it may have the same engine (or not?).

Says you (up a few posts):

    ;)

The Pro is just a Diamondback with different colors according to the reviews I have read.

I never stated it as fact, notice the question mark and the word "thought".

Doesn't mean it's fact. And after checking, if the manufacturer themselves doesn't state that, it's unfair for others to.

Or do you know better than Razer themselves?

It is a big deal if you're a gamer. Meece aren't meece anymore than a PC is a PC.

If you don't believe me then simply compare the specs.

It's called repackaging for a different target market. They don't call the Pro a gaming mouse because they packaged it for the non-gamer.

Anyway the topic is about Woot and they are a quality company to purchase from, have no fear. :)

It still doesn't mean it's a gaming meece. Professional types are graphic design or CAD.

I don't doubt Woot is OK or the meece is suitable for gaming.

I take offence to them stating it's a gaming meece (or the coffee machine is great quality for $19.95), when it's clearly not.

If a department store did that, they would be fined.

If the manufacturer doesn't call it that, the retailer shouldn't.

That's false advertising, regardless of whether the product is suitable for the job to some people.

If it was the same engine, but repackaged, Woot should say so. They clearly didn't.

  26. TheDoug

    Here's exactly what they said:

Note that it doesn't say anything about product quality, and it doesn't make any comparisons to machines costing more; it says "We had dreams of scouring the globe for the perfect espresso/cappuccino maker to sell on Woot."

Note that you are only posting the cached information on the woot blog.

That's not all that was originally posted.

You also convienently forgot about the mouse.

Where's the great humour (that you seem to think is lost on me), about calling a Razer mouse, a gaming meece?

Razer gaming meece have a reputation and are in high demand.

Calling an "everyday" Razer a Razer Gaming Mouse is misleading, and frankly, I don't see the humour. :)

Maybe you can explain the joke?

  28. TheDoug

    TheDoug MajorGeek

OK, then, so about the mouse. From the Razer site:

    and for the Razer Pro:
Awfully close, if not identical, in specs to be called just an "everyday Razer". Go ahead, accuse me of making all that up. Tell me that the "Lan-Pack for storage and transport" makes all the difference.

I just have to believe Razer wanted to unload some of the less popular, less colorful Pro™ inventory, and, since there just aren't that many CAD professionals hanging out at the woot site every night at midnight, what-the-hey, let's call it a gaming mouse. And, certainly, one can't say the specs differ enough to make any reasonable person believe otherwise-- CAD pros probably aren't impressed by optical engines with umlauts in their names, anyway.

But, there is definitely a possibility that there's a worldwide conspiracy afoot on woot's part (along with me, their zombie-like drone) to edit out all the over-blown claims they previously made about a friggin' cheap coffee maker-- I truly believe that. They're probably watching this thread right now...

  29. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

Regardless of how "close" it is, it's not a Razer Gaming mouse.

As I've repeatedly said, and you've ignored or don't have the ability to understand, whether it's got the same engine or not, it's not technically a gaming mouse if the manufacturer doesn't call it one.

Some people want one for the prestige of owning one or the bragging rights.

If a store did that, they would get fined.

But woot doesn't have to care about that.

Or maybe I don't have the same brillant sense of humour that only you and woot have.

Which is why they wouldn't be reading this thread right now. :)

Where, on Razer's website does it say it's a gaming mouse? http://www.razerpro.com//index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=31

Then again, you know better than the manufacturer. (and because it's so close) :)
