Word hourglass persists with typing latency

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium ver 6.1 on a Toshiba E205-S1904.
I have a problem with MS Office Word 2007.
The problem started when I tried to paste Chinese idiograph characters from the internet into a Word document.
The symptoms are rapid blinking of the time-out hourglass cursor and a delay in the appearance of what is typed. The symptoms suggest some endless iterative process going on and the CPU usage goes up about 10% when Word is running.
This only happens on one of my two user accounts on this computer in Windows 7, not on the other. Therefore, I do not think this problem lies in the registry. Uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office did not help.
Microsoft support sites for Word 2007 seem to be broken. I log in as a microsoft account user and the links in Word 2007 take me around in circles without ever being able to post a question.
Google searches come close but MS Fix-it suggestions do not help. Running Avast and Malware Bytes did not turn up anything.
A search on Majorgeeks did not turn up my problem.
Any ideas?

I don't know what service Pack you're running, but support for service pack 1 & 2 has ended. Here's the link for the Microsoft Support Lifecycle page. That's probably why you were going around in circles.

 

OK, so that is why I am helpless on MS.
Now, if someone could suggest a fix strategy for me, I would be indebted.
One additional fact: I did the MSconfig disabling and re-enabling of processes and no culprit was found but when the last bunch of processes was re-enabled, the problem disappeared for about one day, then reappeared.
