word processor or ?

    I'd like to download a shareware or freeware word processing or text editing utility. I don't need a full-fledged (huge) word processing program. But I want some options for fonts, formats, colors(?), layouts, etc. Most of the small text editors seem to be tailored for HTML authoring or programming, which I don't need. Suggestions?

    This is a "full fledged" program, but it's VERY good, also very free.

    Open Office is great. Reads most, if not all, formats. If you don't need all the "functionality" of OFFICE, which not many use, you'll be allright.

    I downloaded OpenOffice Legacy Build 1.0.3.1. It's excellent! It's more than just a free suite of office software. It's an introduction to a huge community of 'open-source' proponants with all their enthusiasm and altruism. I love it! Thanks for the suggestion!
