    We are on very limited budget AKA SocSec. We are trying to get a State Board to go after lawyers that literally robbed us "legally" via less then honest courts. Latest game of "Board" dodge ball is after submitting 100-150 pages of hard documents, Motions, State laws, etc in MS Word (97 yea I know it is old but SW works for us) we have been told "Sorry but we must now have all in PDF formats. AKA another stall.

    So what is most accurate, easy to use, copies well, maybe do batch as lots of pages, and at least costs? Cannot afford Adobe etc. Have seen lots of SW but often go PDF to word, we need Word to PDF. ANY suggestions greatly appreciate3d as time is now going to run out with latest game from "Board" RSVP thanks. And yes a wee bit upset at latest game being played to cover up some very bad stuff.

    Best WORD to PDF SW

    We have got into battle with some lawyers whom openly violated all sorts of laws. We sent data to State Board for actions, now got reply ALL papers, documents etc MUST be in PDF, AKA another delay among many to avoid issues. We ended up being swindled out of large amount of money, despite a huge amount of hard data providing what happened, courts ignored.

    NOW we "MUST SUBMIT IN PDF Format" probably around 124-150 pages of Word (97 rtf) We are in tight spot as to money, on SS and will use XP Home all up to date. Our printer/scanner/fax a HP5600 supposedly will not print PDF. Would very much appreciate any data on PDF SW that converts WORD to PDF, We found most go other way, or we need another printer etc. We will be mailing CD's to Board, NOT print outs. So really, really need Word o PDF SW at lowest costs and is accurate or "Board" will find another reason to delay.

    Any ideas or costs as to what meets need very much appreciated, ASAP. Most of SW seems high cost and does not really meet needs, Will be one time use. Read reviews on some SW and one that seemed OK was found to be constant headache with registration and uses.:confused

    Something else to consider, you could install one of these:

    CutePDF Writer - MajorGeeks. Careful with this one, make sure you do a custom install and un-check any tool bar add-ons and the like before you install.
    It also requires ghost script(a PS2PDF converter).
    or
    doPDF - MajorGeeks
    or
    PrimoPDF - MajorGeeks
    Any of those will create a PDF file from most any program you're using if that program has a "Print" option.

    Or you could install something like: Kingsoft Office Suite Free - MajorGeeks and use it in place of MS Office. This office suite has an "Export to PDF" option. It is also quite capable of opening and saving MS Office document files.

    Or if all you need is an MS Word replacement that will save(export to) PDFs: Kingsoft Writer - MajorGeeks

    All the above are freeware.

    We have HP 5600 printer that does NOT handle PDF, does this impact when converting files from Word to PDF. We do not intend to print out, but was told if no PDF in printer options, will not work as sends PDF data to a file, but acts like a printer and printer must be able to do PDF, Yep sounded weird to me, but?

    Will look at the downloads. Thanks

    The first three act as printers. For instance, you're in MS Word and select to print a document. A list of printers will show up. You would select say doPDF as the printer to use. A dialogue window will appear asking for a filename and location(file path). After assigning a name, doPDF would save the file as a PDF document. It would not try to send the file to your HP 5600.

    As for the Kingsoft products, they have an "export" feature that allows you to save a document as a PDF file. They can open your exiting ".doc" files with no problem. Then you can export to the PDF format, in other words, save the file(s) as PDFs.

    In either case, you won't be trying to actually print the file(s) with your printer, you will be saving them in PDF file format.

    So in short, your HP 5600 doesn't enter in to the picture at all. No impact on the file conversion process.

    Foxit installs a virtual printer which will output a PDF file. It will be one of the options when you print from Word.

    Alternatively, click on the FILE tab at the top right, click on CREATE from the drop down menu, select FROM FILE then navigate to your file in the file browser window. At the top, click on the SAVE icon and pick the folder you want it saved to.

    Thank you and Plasti, did not think the printer was involved, but a bit confused s to why they even used it, suspected it was a virtual printer, Will run the converter later tonight, will advise how it worked out. Probably a bit of learning curve for first hour or so. Thanks again to all,

    @Just Playin. Thanks, I hadn't realized that Foxit installs a virtual printer.:banghead:-o

    @chuck2

    If you install one of those virtual printers I mentioned earlier, there is a simple method to perform a batch conversion of your ".doc" and ".rtf" files to PDF files. Installing one of those shouldn't interfere with the installation of Foxit Reader. Currently, I have CutePDF Writer installed on a Win XP machine and PrimoPDF installed on Win 7.

    Since I don't have Foxit installed I don't know if it's virtual printer can be used in a batch operatiion, I suspect it can. Have to wait on Just Playin for info on that.

    You can also read the files into Open Office, and save as a PDF, so no need for third party pseudo print type software. Or do the documents in Google Doc's, which would allow you to access them from anywhere, but also be able to save as pdf's, or only grant access to those who only need to access them online, without trying to email them to them.

    These will be put on CD and sent to "Board for review" no on line or such,. Have not used open office for while, will look at it, So far the geeks down load suggestions have worked very well on single docs. Will now try for batch and see what happens.
