    Hello,

    I've completed the Malware Removal guide and attached are the resulting files.

    This machine has problems at startup. It takes a long time to start. The desktop wallpaper comes up relatively fast, but icons come up slow and the first software starts very slow (usually firefox or outlook). When I click on icons the right click menu comes up, and sometimes I am not able to click on them at all. I then have to ctrl/alt/delete to bring up the task mananger and then I am able to click on icons. When firefox starts I am unable to click on any links until I click on another window first. This problem has been ongoing for approx. 8 months, but usually goes away after working for 5 or 10 minutes. It is lasting longer now, which is why I am taking the time to get help.

    Thanks,
    Will

    Welcome to MajorGeeks.

    As far a malware is concerned your logs are clean. Any additional issues like the slow startup will need to be taken care of in our Software help forum. I will suggest a few things here that may help with the slow startup.

    First delete the Viewpoint folder found in c:\program files\Viewpoint

    Let's clean out the specialized tools we have used before the other suggestions.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:

    StartupLite

    * Download StartupLite by Malwarebytes to your desktop.
    * Double click StartupLite to launch the program.
    * Ensure the Disable box is checked.
    * Click Continue.
    * A pop up message will tell you the unnecessary startup items in your list have been disabled and ask you to restart your computer.
    * Restart your computer.

    I would also recommend that you defrag the computer. There may be a lot of fragmented sections on the drive after cleaning the malware.

    You can use the built in Windows defrag by clicking Start > Run and then type in dfrg.msc then click OK. Or use a faster FREE program. Defraggler is very effective and easy to use.

    Important! Be sure to uncheck Install optional Yahoo! Toolbar during the install process to avoid installing the Yahoo! Toolbar.

    Note: Be sure to clean out temp files and restart the computer just before beginning a defrag.
