Working from home, pah! Silly idea.

Work from the pub instead :D I love pubs that offer free Wi-Fi! Even if the beer does cost a fortune.

Seriously, anyone else do their 'main' job from home?, not counting Tim&Jim :)

I do all my work from home (I have an extra frig for the beer :D )
I am a part time geek- part time caterer--(beer,food,computers what more do ya need)
Not alot of money but, I have gas in my pickup and the lights in the house are on,the cable is paid, so i guess its all good.

I did the 7a-3p construction trade for over 10 years before walking away and doing what i enjoy--computers,beer and food. :D

This was not an easy decision as I made very good money in construction--
A few stutters and starts, a few sleepless nights (oh god what have I done)
Not an easy road unless you are a very determined person.

I know my job could be done from home or anywhere with secure internet, but I seriously would hate it as I would not get any work done, I would feel a hermit in not having human contact and worst of all I would not get to look at all the nice nurses in the building :(

I could and do perform some aspects of my job from home. It makes things kind of nice once in a while.

Ah yes, Nurses! I couldn't work at home, but the contact with other people is a winning arguement for me. I'd go nuts staring at my walls and CRT all day.

In my case, going nuts is a really short trip. Don't even have to pack a day bag for that one.

And human contact is one of the leading reasons that I would want to work from home :)

I would LOVE to work from home instead of the office, and avoid all the office crap and politics. I get out and about enough with work as it is to not become a hermit in my own home.

I know what you mean on office politics and one reason I didnt decide to take up an offer for the other dept we have in work. But sadly my job is mostly PC based, altho I do get out to doctors surgerys every few weeks.

Actually, working from home in a highly political office is worse. The malcontents always seem to make things bad for anyone not there. Sucks really.

Malcontents can drown in their own misery as far as I'm concerned, unfortunately they like to spread their disease.rolleyes Work from home is easily tracked (quality and output which management can see for themselves). Today's technology allows a virtual office that provides the flexibility for those who need the capability to work from home for whatever reason (ongoing or as required), so in this respect I'm all for having that type of flexibility.;)

Yep, as far as the I.T. tech. business is concerned, a lot of it can, and is done from the relative comfort of my own home. Still a lot of circumstances where I need to go out and meet customers. Since a lot of them are also friends of mine, that is usually a good thing. Some cases where I DEFINITELY don't want to be there, if you know what I mean. If I start getting 'cabin fever', I just take myself out somewhere and try and forget about work for a while.

I'm sitting at home now, installing O.S.'s on customer's P.C.'s for the Easter vacation, and drinking my German Lager and eating my chicken sandwich (as well as slacking here, LoL!), so I guess life could be a lot worse. ;). And I suppose earning a thousand dollars in a few days is not to be sneezed at, either. (Pity that's not all the time, but such is life).

I doubt if working for wages would ever be justified again, (unless someone is prepared to pay me a six figure income for something I actually want to do, or something - it ain't gonna happen).

Usually with the human contact factor, I'm either by myself, or there's too many people at once - ack! All in all, me being the owner, and pretty much the company suits me, at least for now. As for seeing Nurses and such, t.b.h. there’s often a lot better lookin’ folks down the local mall, or something. I mean, some Nurses are pretty scary looking, i.m.o. :p

Well my "Job" that of being a "Old Fart", is best done at home, or in my MH, something about a old geezer swinging his walking cane at all the youngens he see's tends to upset the local gentryLOL I still keep my hand in the consulting game though.............and the funny thing is I make more part-time, than I ever did working 100+ hour weeks. I tripled my hourly rate, and tell most to sod off, but they still come knockingconfused

Shoot... i thought that I had dropped a post in here this morning before I left work, but i guess I never finished it.....

THey keep bugging me about 'Mandatory Overtime' at work.... thing is, all the OT is during the day and I work nights... I told them that as soon as I was working from home, I would pick up all sorts of OT for them. Then I could work and still get my laundry done and such.
