I am looking for the perfect workspace software for my needs.

I download virtuaWin and love it so far but I think it capable of doing exactly what I would like.

I want something to act like having different users and workspace software.

I want different bookmarks, different short cuts, and different program choices.

Is this possible with VirtuaWin? If not is there something out there that does it?

Just setting up multiple user accounts in Windows does all of that so why use a virtual machine?

The main reason is that virtual desktops are far more efficient.

Dividing the desktop more completely would accelerate that efficiency in my opinion.

I love the idea of having a program running in the background via a virtual desktop and then I can switch to work on another project.

If your running multiple companies off one desktop then efficiency is king.

With users I have to log-off and log back in which would close that application.

I have the added advantage that on my desktop only things that relate to that business are visible so I don't get distracted or have to broaden my search for applications or bookmarks.

I've no experience with VirtuaWin but it looks like a decent program that would allow you to do what you want. At least with the "different short cuts" and the "different program choices." By creating the different short cuts you would be creating a different set of programs to select. The same would be true for web sites if you create short cuts on the desktop to those web sites.

Setting up multiple user accounts as Earthling suggested would work. You don't have to log one user off before you log another on if "Fast User Switching" is enabled.

If you can't get VirtuaWin to do what you want, you might give |MG| Dexpot a try. I've had it installed for quite a while now and no problems.

If you decide to try Dexpot, please note the limitation posted on the download page just below the "Features" list:
So, do not use the "default" install, use the "custom" install and make sure to opt-out of anything you don't want installed.

I didn't know about fast user switching. Hmmmmm.

I will look into that and it looks like a combination of both may give me the look of exactly what I want.

    Thank you.

Sometime ago, Microsoft had a Virtual desktop add-in for XP, that would allow you to do the same that you could with the Linux virtual desktop. It never went any farther than XP, since Fast User switching got better with Vista & 7.
