    Very interesting! And an eye-opener.
The Value $5.26 is given as 'The global median broadband cost in US dollars per Megabit per second, averaged based on customer surveys.' What exactly does this mean?

Wow Australia ranked 59th for download speed average @ 18.04MB/s :cry
and 65th for upload speed average @ 7.48MB/s :cry
I thought we might have done so much better than that considering how much we pay :cry
I have got Optus optic fibre direct to house and pay to get 22MB/s down but I am lucky to get 8MB/s most of the time and Friday and Saturday evening it is sometimes down to only 3MB/s .........still it is quicker than dial up rolleyes

San Antonio has some pretty decent stats, 63.5 down and 10.9 up, with 98% promise and a value of $3.29...although hopefully Google Fiber will get here soon and the average upload/download will skyrocket! San Antonio is a "planned city" for Google Fiber but it's not yet here, and there's no telling how long it'll take.

Not surprising really that the G8 are not great, its patchy at best and its only in the past year I have gone from 2 mb/s to 60 mb/s internet as we in the village i'm in have FTTC

On and to those that want my upload is 10 mb/s averages out at 7 in reality.

    Not a surprise.

Infrastructure for such things is much less costly when your population is densely packed in a small area.

I have a mobile modem capable of 21.6 Mbps but downloading never goes past 7-8 Mbps.
BTW I'm paying about $10,00 for 4 GB data per month. The modem is included on a 24-month contract.

That is cheap for mobile data. Over here data only plans are still very expensive with small data limits :(
My mobile data only plan (4G modem) costs AU$30/month for a 1GB allowance on a 24 month contract but recently they have added a 1GB data top up for an extra AU$10 which I now use. Previously they charged 2.3c/MB when you went over the 1GB allowance :cry
My mobile data modem is on the Telstra 4G Network and download speed is consistently about 45Mb/s so it is very easy to go over the cap and several times in the past I have had bills for several hundreds of dollars even though I am careful with usage :-o
This is my plan from Telstra and I only use it when I can't tether my laptop to my mobile phone :(
