Hey, I was just wondering if anybody knew a way to fix a problem I'm having with WoW. It's installed, but when I try to open it, I get the following message: "World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up-to-date."

    My video card specs are:
NVIDIA GeForce 6100, 256 MB, and the Driver shows the following info:
    Main Driver: nv4_disp.dll
    Version: 6.14.0010.8133
    WHQL Logo'd: Yes
    Mini VDD: nv4_mini.sys
    VDD: n/a
    DDI Version: 9 (or higher)

I have downloaded DX 9.0c, and I believe my video drivers are up-to-date, so I'm not sure exactly what is wrong. I googled it and found most answers were to run>dxdiag>display, which I have done. When I "Test Direct3D" the following error messages occur:
DirectDraw test results: Failure at step 9 (Creating primary surface): HRESULT = 0x887600e1 (error code)

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 37 (SetCooperativeLevel to Fullscreen): HRESULT = 0x88760245 (error code)

Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x88760868 (error code)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you install 9, or did you just download it? The installation seems inconsistent as to whether or not it's actively installing, or if it's just downloading to install on the second go around.

May I ask how you fixed it? I get the same problems. It used to be that I could start up games just fine and then if I exited and didn't use any video applications (e.g. games, watching videos) after a few minutes I would get those errors. But now it's become more severe as I get those errors as soon as my computer is turned on.

All I did was to make sure all the drivers were up to date and restarted my computer. It worked fine after that, though I think I'm going to upgrade my video card. On occasion the blue screen of death will appear, and I googled one of the error messages (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error), and I found that it was an overheating problem. So I might get a new fan and a video card. Good luck with your problem though CXeNoRuN.
