Today I was downloading something on Bit torrent, and all of a sudden, my computer started acting weird. (I am by no means a pro at computers) Started asking me about the computer being attacked and go to this website, after some hard research i found out that it is a rogue client, trying to make clients pay for a nonexistent adware product. My computer's desktop logos now have like a black shadow on them, and my computer says on startup that the /:C is now nonexistent and can not be open. When I click on the My Computer desktop shortcut, it does not show the /:C drive. And when I click the start button on the left hand corner, It does not display: All Programs, or the Control Panel, etc.

My Computer's Properties are:Microsoft XP Home Edition
    Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
    2.79GHz, 1.00 GB of Ram
    Dell Dimension DXP051 Intel(R)

I have read the other article about this virus on the site, but i cant run anything since my start button is not working properly. Thank you for all the help. And for some reason, some of my Ad-aware programs arnt showing up on the add/remove page of the control panel.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Note:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
