Okay, I had a recent hard drive replacement and I need to restore my local network. The computer I need to restore network values on, is an XP (home ed)

I have 3-Win98's & another WinXP that I wish to re-network with this XP. The values on the other systems should be fine.

What I would like, if at all possible, is a step by step for resetting all values on this new hard drive.

    Thanks
    :)

can you give a little more information on your network setup? do you use a router to connect to the internet, is it a file-server, was it a gateway to the internet, etc. if it didn't do anything specific and you're using a router, you should just be able to plug it in and it would automatically get an IP from your router (unless you use a static IP network at home) and you would be just fine. If it did anything specific like a webserver or file-server - then additional configuration would be needed. just a lil more info would definitly help nail down an answer tho' :) cheers

    Hi Chris.

    Thanks.

The network is fairly basic. Ethernet wired to router; the other XP is connected via wireless router to the other router. Not worried about an internet connect throught the local network. Basic file sharing using one PC as a server and the others are clients. (I understand bits & pieces)
The clients share the server's printer and basically one program on the server. (I can work out the networking of the inidvidual program) That's pretty much it!

    :)

Oops! Forgot. The XP that I am wanting to restore network settings is the server.

from the sound of things - all you should have to do is get it on the network, make sure it is part of your home networks workgroup, and then enable file sharing and share whatever data/folders you want shared. network setup wizard can do this automatically
