Would more RAM help my ASUS G60?

I am wondering what I can do that I haven't already tried. My Asus G60J is slower than usual lately. I haven't used it all that much since I first got it new at Best Buy.
Here is what I have done:
I run Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot Search and Destroy, Malware Bytes, CCleaner and auslogics Defragmenter every time I run it (about. 2 times a week).

Would increasing to 8 gigs of RAM instead of 4 help a lot???

    Thanks

Are you sure it isn't slow because MS Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and Windows are not updating? Since you only turn it on twice a week, and September was a big patch month, it might be trying to update/patch windows.

If you are not using a 64-bit operating system, increasing the RAM from 4 to 8Gb will just waste your money. You MUST have a 64-bit OS to use more than 4Gb.

If me, I would disable Spybot and the defragger. You don't need SB running with MSE and MBAM. That's overkill with no added benefit. And with lots free disk space, constant defragging does nothing but waste system resources (CPU cycles and RAM), and increases wear and tear on your drive. It also can disrupt (by unlearning) Windows prefetching which help improve performance.

But also, if you are low on free disk space that will greatly impact (in a very bad way) the defragger's performance. A small amount of free disk space also adversely affects the performance of the page file, which can affect the overall performance of your computer.

If low on disk space, you need to uninstall programs you don't need and move unused large data files to a backup drive. If that does not free up enough space, you need to buy a second drive and move some of your installed programs to it, or a larger drive and move everything to it.

Thanks very much to everyone. Lots of good thoughts on this. I have a good amount of free space on the hard drive, run Win 7 home premium. Will have to check to be sure I actually do have a 64bit system. I have been using my Dell laptop a lot, and it is has a i3 CPU but is far faster than the Asus which has the i5.
