Damn, missed edit time... Anyway one other question I was also going to ask is this: I've figured out that the jump up to 200Mhz FSB was a little too much to handle on stock voltages. My motherboard jumpers will only let me switch my FSB to either 133, 166 or 200Mhz. Is there anyway I can switch it to say.. 175 Mhz? I've tried ClockGen and all that happen when I clicked "Apply Changes" was that my system just froze completely :(. Any ideas?

Sorry things have been a bit crazy here.. Remember to always have your FSB to Mem speed 1:1 on socket A mobos... Have you tryed 200FSB 1:1 ? And no your memory wont get any hotter then it was running stock..

Hey, Sorry I havn't been on in a while, I've been in Germany for a week ;) Anyway, Yes I've tried running FSB at 200 and it just reboots when it begins the windows xp load :(

What timings are you running the memory at ???

when it reboots upon windows load... that means it is ever-so-close to stable. This is where either loosening your RAM timings a step will help, or you would need a slight uppage in your voltage on RAM & CPU... but it was pretty much confirmed earlier you dont' have those options....

So it looks like memory timings are the only thing you can really do to help you out on this one.

Hmm, the thing is that I can run my memory clock at 200 and everything is perfectly stable. I'm doing so as I type.

Hang on a second.. I have a genius idea.. I will test now! :D

Update: Well... I have now discoverd that the higher I set my DRAM Clock, The closer I am to being stable at 200Mhz FSB . Currently I have the DRAM Clock set to its highest (200Mhz) which is what I normally run at, and all is stable. Is there a way I can run the DRAM clock any higher?

I've just had an idea, would a BIOS update allow me to set the DRAM clock any higher?

    Prolly not....

Hmm, ok then, can you think of a way I can set my FSB to around 175Mhz? Iv'e tried Clockgen etc and my computer just stops responding whenever I Apply Changes :(

What memory timings are you running ?

    SPD Memory Modules
    DIMM1: Micron Tech. 8VDDT3264AG-335GB 256 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)
    DIMM2: Micron Tech. 8VDDT3264AG-40BGB 256 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-2-2-6 @ 133 MHz)

Thats according to everest, and im currently running DRAM clock @ 200Mhz. Hoever, the problem still occured while running at 166Mhz aswell :(

No i dont mean the stock timings i need the timmings your running... CPUz, memory tab....

Ok, My current timings are: 2.5-5-3-7. I'm pretty sure thats right, Looks like my PC2700 is pulling my PC3200 down :(

You have a via chipset right .... in the bios set your cas to 3 your ras to cas to 3 and your precharge to 3

I don't seem to remember seeing that in the bios :( It might be there, I'll have a look in a second :D

Ok, I only managed to change the cas in my bios, where else could I find the ras and precharge? However, I did find one called "Precharge to active(Trp)" Which is set to 5T. Is this what you wanted me to change to 3T?

  21. ACE 256

ACE 256 MajorGeeks Forum Administrator - Overclocking Expe

hmm Precharge to active(Trp) thats prolly your ras to cas .. try setting it to 3...and see if your stable at 200...
Im kinda bussy now but i will be poping in and out frequently....

  22. Bobomoomin

    Bobomoomin Specialist

Ok, thats all done... Did you mean try setting my FSB to 200Mhz and see if it's stable? Or did you mean just see if its stable with the DRAM Clock at 200?

Edit: Editing the Precharge to active(Trp) seems to of had no effect on my timings at all. Should I change back?

set every thing to 3 more less.... all but your Tras ( the higher one ) and see if you can get 200FSB and 200 Dram stable remember run 1:1 on the ram:FSB.......

Hmm, I'm still not stable at the 200Mhz FSB. Any other ideas? If not no worries. I'm thinking of getting myself an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ which will run at 2.0Ghz stock ;)

What kind of errors do you get in windows ?

  26. Bobomoomin

    Bobomoomin Specialist

Nope I can't even boot into windows, I've tried almost all combinations of memory timings any everytime I try at 200Mhz FSB it hangs at the XP loading screen and reboots itself :(

Prolly need a bit more Vcore to bad you dont have that option in the bios...

witht that 200.... invest in better RAM!

go for a matched pair of PC-3200... and that should solve your problems!

    Yeh, I'm going to go for AMD Athlon 64 + 1GB Ram (2x 512M PC3200) + Mainboard :D
