Would you conisder AIM safe?

I used to have AIM. But got rid of it about a year ago.

I think I want to download it again. But I'm not sure if I should.

Would you guys consider AIM... "safe"?

 

I think it would safe as long as you dont click on any suspecious links, or accept any unknown files. Make sure you have your firewall up also. For some reason Zone Alarm gets about 1000 hits an hour when i am on AIM. I would also suggest yahoo messenger.

Safe for your computer, or safe for you? They're two completely different things, with two completely different answers. Also, define "safe"...that varies as well.

 

I hate the new aim 5.9 or w/e dont get it. it has like ads in the IM window even, and the IM window is like huge.

I use aim 5.2.3277 and it works great. It's the older one so theres no bulk.

Depends what 'safe' means to you... I consider the AIM 'client' to be a pita with intrusive advertising, and the older versions where it's less intrusive are less secure.

There is another way though... just because you use the AIM network doesn't mean you're stuck with their client, because there are 3rd-party clients available.

I use Trillian http://www.trillian.cc/ as my IM client, because it can connect to AIM, but also to Yahoo, MSN, ICQ etc and put all your contacts in a single buddy list... much tidier, and you can skin it to suit the look of your desktop.

I've been using it in it's various forms for a couple of years now with no hassles whatever.
