    Hi.

My wow account just got hacked. Blizzard is investigating and a solution will hopefully be reached soon.

Now this got me thinking how anyone could have possibly gotten my password, since it's fairly strong (numbers and letters) or even found out the name of my wow account (I believe I don't have it listed anywhere online). I'm afraid my entire system may have been compromised. I've changed my online banking passwords, however this was done on the same pc system.

I've followed all the steps in the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide to the best of my abilities. I've also run a full AVG AntiVirus scan. I didn't run their RootKit program since I didn't realise I had to sign up for their 30day trial in order to be able to run it.

Here is a rundown of what I've done so far:

    ran SUPERAntiSpyware with no hits
    ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware:
1 hit for control panel style (ForceClassicControlPanel)
    ran ComboFix with 3 hits:
    c:\documents and settings\Custom Settings\TaskBarCmd v1.1.exe
    c:\windows\AppPatch\Custom\{deb7008b-681e-4a4a-8aae-cc833e8216ce}.sdb
kinda scary - google shows it came up in some other scans
    c:\windows\pthreadGC2.dll
ran RootRepeal with a few hits - all seem harmless
    ran MGTools with no hits

Any help would be appreciated. I would very much like to track down the source of this compromise and definitively determine if it was wow-specific or a system-wide compromise.

    Thanks.

You need to put ComboFix on your desktop as directed, not here:
    c:\documents and settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

    Combo is showing this:
    c:\windows\system32\wscntfy.exe ... is missing

So you should get you xp cd and go to start / run and type:
sfc /scannow --> run it at least twice.

Then run CCleaner to remove your temps.

I am not seeing any malware, so I am going to assume this is WOW specific.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
