I got a virus or something and had to system restore, and set it back to a later date, now when i try to uninstall Wow and halo alike , i get messages like "uninstall.xml" could not be read. or even when im opening them they say they no longer exist or something similar, im really getting aggrovated trying to resolve the problem by myself as im not too educated on the topic of computers or anything to do with them...anyone out there that could help me out?

If you still have the discs, reinstall both games. That will recreate all missing files, and you should now be able to reinstall them.

If that doesn't work, post back with as much info as possible, especially about the OS and games. Are they Steam downloads, retail DVDs, et cetera.

Well, im running windows xp service pack 3, and my computer had gotten attacked by a malacious program when i had let my original antivirus down, i went to a website and it was disguised as the microsoft security center, after i was infected i realized it was Xp Security Center, and it had locked me out of the internet and pretty much took over my computer, but i did a system restore to an earlier date, and got control of everything back, i re configured my internet, but i still cannot figure out why these games wont uninstall, or install, its as if they arent even there..

I have the disks to both games as well as copy saved to my blizzard account for wow, so that i shouldnt need my disks to install the game, but when i go to start world of warcraft up i get this message....

The file "wmo.MPQ" could not be opened. If this problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling the game and reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support (which is seemingly impossible to do ive tried..).

So when i go and try to uninstall world of warcraft from my computer it says this... "Uninstall.xml" could not be read.

I am completely lost at this point and have no clue where to go from here.. any ideas?

Do you have those two files at all? Can you copy them over from a working install of the game on a different system?

I don't do WoW, so I don't know what those files do, but if they are tied to DRM and licensing older copies may be invalid and that's why it can't read them now. Just a theory.
