Wrong Keyboard Layout After Windows 10 Update

I am not sure if this is related to the recent Win update, but coincidentally, it started happening shortly after.

I have an old laptop that was updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and, at some point - I don't know how or by whom - the OS was changed to the Finnish version. I have keyboard, speech, date and time, and Windows display settings, everything I can think of, set to UK English, and alternative display languages set to Finnish and Khmer for years and I never had any problem. I also used to have a Khmer keyboard layout installed with a toggle tab on the taskbar in Win XP and Win7, but I removed that ages ago. Having a Finnish keyboard was never necessary because I could use Ctrl+Alt with a number pad to display the two extra letters.

I removed the Finnish from Display settings last night, which seemed to fix the problem, but today the problem is back! I am using the onscreen keyboard for the characters that are in the "wrong" place, but I don't see the email sign anywhere! Naturally, using an onscreen keyboard is a pain, not the least as it covers quite a lot of the screen, never mind slowing my work to a crawl.

Microsoft help files were not very helpful at all and Windows troubleshooter did not detect any problems.

Thanks. Without your encouragement, I might have given up and taken the machine to a repair shop...
My physical keyboard is American but normally I use UK layout. This problem is that somehow my Windows install was changed to a Finnish one when the OS was updated from Win7.

The video is a bit outdated but it gave me a push in the right direction and I got it sorted tonight. In case anyone else has the same problem, I'll write here what I did:
Go to Settings - Keyboard
Under the title, Override for Default Input Method: set to "default".
Tick the "Use the Desktop Language Bar When it's Available".
In the Language bar options, tick "Docked in the Taskbar"

The installed keyboard layouts are now showing in the taskbar, so I can swap it back to the UK layout. Hopefully, the problem is now sorted for good.
I haven't found out how to install the Khmer language pack but that can wait.

 

Update

My Word 2007 suddenly changed proof language into French even though I don't have French language pack installed, (it goes back to French even though English is set to default) and the next thing I know is my language bar is gone, and my keyboard in Windows is back to Finnish!

I don't know if something else has changed but the "Override for Default Input Method" is now in Advanced options and the "default" option is not available, only the two languages that show on task bar. I chose English - everything else was already ticked - and my language changed to English, and I got my language bar back. Word is still insisting on French language for spell check.

I had to use onscreen keyboard to see the layout before I could type (thank goodness the Finnish keyboard uses Latin alphabet)
You can find this in Settings, Ease of access, Scroll down to Interaction on the side menu and choose Keyboard. tick the box Use your device without a physical keyboard.

It seems to me that my Windows has become a little unstable, the laptop has been in constant use for at least 11 years after all and has hardly ever been switched off, which might be the reason for my problem. So, I have copied my own instructions and saved them on my desktop. At least I hope that's the issue and I won't have this issue when I can finally afford a new laptop.
