What happens when you turn on a computer with the wrong voltage setting on the power supply. Can it damage more than just the power supply? I am also wondering if a motherboard has to be grounded in order to function properly. I have heard about people testing a motherboard outside of a case. Is this possible?

Not sure about the wrong voltage part, but you can build a 'phone book' computer. Good for very odd troubleshooting. Set the motherboard on a phone book, hook everything up on a desk or suitable area and fire it up! A quick search tells me switching from 220v to 110v on the PSU with 220v power is potentially bad. It seems like I have seen somewhere that switching from 110 to 220 is ok if you have 110v power, but not sure about that.

    Have a good one.
