So my partner here at work goes out around 0430 for a smoke. we leave the doors open when we go out for a break in case the other needs out help, we can yell down the hallway to the door. I was taking a couple calls and I hear him calling me to come out and take a look at something. I finish up and go out, and there is my driver side door lock, laying on the ground, looks like somoene jammed a screwdriver in there and ripped the whole thing out, tearing my door apart in the process. (I have a Saturn... fiber panels and all)

I called 911 and they didn't want to send anyone out to take a report unless the damage was over $1000. Needless to say, I blew a gasket and a cop showed up rather quickly. I did something I have enver done before, I tossed my county credentials out there... that was a wierd feeling.

So the cop shows up and does a report, no fingerprints, no trying to find out who did it. WTF do I pay taxes for?!?!?!?!?

So I have to take a hit with no attempt to locate who the MF is who did this to my car.

I am so freaing peeved out right now that I just want to find the MF myself and do damage.... but the chances of that are slim and none sinc the police can't be bothered.

Between the door, my palm pilot being stolen... that really annoys me as my whole life is on there.... and loosing some software (WinXP Pro, Office XP and Photoshop CS2)... I feel violated and then dump0ed on by PD.... this freaking sux0rs big time.

    OK... /rant

    Thanks for listening.

you have my deepest sympathy CALLTAKER we once had our house broken into and i know how you feel.

pretty much the same result with the police they just took credit cards and cash but having our privacy invaded really P$$$$D me off plus the cost of repairs to the door and locks(the insurance payed) the biggest cost was putting in extra security to stop it reoccurring.

    Wow...so sorry Calltaker!

Nothing like the police's inaction to add insult to injury. I found first hand that they don't want to be bothered with damage to cars unless the person that did it is standing 2 feet away from them. I don't know, maybe the chances of catching the person are so slim that they figure it's a waste, but at least they could make some effort.

Sorry to hear about that. It can be tough. First thing i would do is check all the local Pawn shops for the palm pilot. If you got proof of purchase with the S/N on it you could match it up and bring the police in or even you should be able to get the info on the person that pawned it from the pawn shop. Thats what my mother did when someone stole some of her rings and other things from my grandmothers place (Turned out to be a drug using aunt and to late to get it back because the pawn shop already melted it down.)

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, Calltaker.

Had it happen a few times myself; and as Bill mentioned, when it happens to your house it's not so much what gets stolen, but the knowledge that some dirty little mongrel has invaded your sanctuary that really gets to you.

Unfortunately the police have to base everything on monetary value, when it is often things like palm pilots, and your music collection that are harder to replace.

Hope the little :crapheads get what they deserve :hammer

Aww man, that is really awful! I guess it depends on where you are because when my purse was stolen (which was alot less severe then what happened to you) the police were very pro-active about catching the guy and they did actually about 2 hrs later.... because the genius used my cell to call his house rolleyes

Im really sorry that happened to you! now you have to replace what was taken from you and thats stinks but its the feeling of being violated is what really is terrible.:(

But remember what goes around certainly comes back around!

Hey, at least they didn't steal the car.... i got my car stolen back in february on valentines day no doubt..... luckily it got towed to an impound lot and i got a bill for it.... ****ing cops didn't find it..... the impound lot did.... but ya they stole my cd player, all my cds, my 150 dollar tennis racket (and the tennis balls), and a bunch of other stuff i had in there.....

so i called the cops, and they didn't do shit.... i mean whoever stole it was in the car, driving it.... his finger prints were probably everywhere..... but i was happy to at least get my car back..... but ya the day after it got stolen we had to have some people come out to change our garage door codes and security system codes and stuff..... and when i found the car i still had to pay the towing charge! But they did take off the $800 some dollars in impound fees.... but still.... ****ing sucked.....

So i feel your pain, but i guess you can at least be happy you still have your car.....

Sorry to hear about the breakin, sometimes all you want to know is that there may be a chance of catching the little :***

My parents used to run a small firm in Wales, nice town most of the time but the factory did get broken into twice. First time the crooks took the cheque book and tried to cash a cheque. Fortunately, being a small town, the bank cashier knew my mum and called her from the bank. They then kept the crooks talking long enough for the police to turn up!

Second time the police weren't so clever, the factory was empty and up for sale. Some kids broke all the windows and grafitied the inside. Police took a look around and said there wasn't much they could do as they had no leads on who had done it. At this point, my mum dragged one of the officers back to the factory and showed him where the kids had written their name on the wall! Still nothing was done to them because they were too young and we lost about 12000pounds on the sale price because of the damage. :mad

I commisserate with you on that one, Calltaker. Our cops ( Canada ) won't make any investigation on car breakins or auto theft. Their canned response is "It's just kids, and we can't prosecute or convict kids." I do not fault the cops, for this response. They are told to say this to any victim that they might have to deal with. Since auto theft is dealt with by "Major Case" detectives, it is unlikely that you'll see a detective, unless your Insurance Company tells the cops they need to investigate. So, unless you've lost a Ferrari or Bentley, or something, we, the ordinary public must suck it up and continue to pay escalating insurance premiums. Yes, I too have suffered the indifference of the Police when thieves pierced the door on my Quattro, to gain entry. When that failed, they smashed the glass of the rear opera window. Then to start the vehicle, smashed the ignition lock and removed it. Then, they couldn't drive it away because it was a manual transmission. As the cop said: "Kids". :)

Sadly it's the same here in the UK, the only thing you can do is inform the police and get a "crime number" from them which means that you can claim from your Insurance Company.

What pisses me off is that the little scrotes who did the crime have cost me my No Claims Bonus and also the first £100 to £200 of the claim as the excess.

Hanging is too good for them!

Thanks all.... I know that there must be a whole ot of other more serious crimes and all that, but hey..I pay taxes and all. Anyways... insurance doesn't cover this (should have got the full coverage i guess) so I am getting stuck twice. Only good thing is that my boss told me to talk to him and let him know what it was going to cost... hoping he may help out with it. Attaching a pic of the damage to the car door. What you are looking at is where the key cylinder used to be on my 2004 Saturn Ion.

Tough break Calltaker. We were broken into 8 or 9 tears ago. A cop showed up and they did take prints, but the cop told us right out all they would do is check pawn shops. They said there's not the manpower to investigate every crime. Don't blame the cops, blame the guys who set the budgets.

Sadly, the police are no better, here.

Similar thing happened to me about two years back. Entire car got ripped off in my own driveway. Cops wouldn't even come out to make a report, or collect any info. Ended up a 12 year old kid, (son of a friend of mine), located it. Then the cops were too lazy to come out and (again!), but insisted that I go up to the Police station, to verify I had my own vehicle back.

Needless to say, I'm singularly unimpressed with Police attitude in these parts.:mad So much for 'serving and protecting'. rolleyes All very well to talk about budgets and such, but if was their car that got stolen, I'm guessing they would leave no stone unturned.

This is an ongoing story on the UK news,
a man beaten to death outside his home after confronting a gang of 15 and 16 year olds.

Ouch! Feel for you CT. Damage done and that aside what about insurance? Can you claim from them? Hopefully you can and if so, focus your energies there instead. Unfortunately when it comes to Police in these type of instances things can be frustrating (at the least)...their police report can at least be used for your insurance claim (though it still doesn't take away the lousy feeling of being violated in such a manner).

    Cheers
