X1900XT problems.

Hi, I recently just upgraded my computer

Intel Pentium 4 650 "LGA775 Prescott" 3.4GHz (800FSB) with HT
Technology - Retail (CP-091-IN)

Before i had an intel 3ghz,1gig of ram and an x800xt...Everything was fine with it. Now however with this new upgrade my computer is faster with everyday stuff like opening folders etc but with games it just cant handle it. I play CS alot and i used to get 100fps constant...Now however it drops constantly to as low as 14 fps...I don't know what is wrong with it at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. Also when i ran 3dmark 06 on my old computer it ws much smoother than it is now. Thanks Urban x

 

What about the hard drive? Is it new? Was it the old one? Did you format it? Did you uninstall the old driver?

 

yeah my first guess would be you failed to format after installing the new video card. Using a program like diver cleaner is a must before installing a new card. The best thing to do though to get all the performance out of your new card is a clean format.

 

Not necessarily.

ATI and nVidia use the same driver package for most of their cards, so if you already have the latest driver installed, it is pointless.


Urban, one quick thing to try is to disable HyperThreading and see if that makes any difference.

And use the latest ATI Catalyst drivers if you aren't already.
