Curious how i'd do this, preferably wirelessly to the laptop. Currently I have just the one modem, and am in the uk on Blueyonders 2 meg Broadband connection with a motorola sb5100 modem.

Currently i can run either the pc, or the xbox on this modem, but not both at the same time. To alternate i have to turn the modem off, disconnect one of the two, connect the other, and then restart the modem so it reconfigures its-self, which seems a little daft because the xbox connection is a different socket anyway to the pc's one.

As far as i know a router would solve this problem, though how i dont know. Not quite with the process of how it works. But... from what i've read it seems this would only allow the 2 connections, and would not allow me to connect my laptop while while both xbox and main pc were connected.

Logically it would seem reasonable that i could somehow split the pc connection to the laptop, presumably either like two seperate objects using the same connection, or the laptop using the pc for a connection like a network, and leave the xbox to its own devices... or am i way off base? With a 2 meg connection would it end up being split into 3 equal parts, or is it simply not possible at all.

I'm assuming there must be people using BlueYonder in the uk on these boards who may have the same problem lol... any thoughts would be of great help.

Actually...you need to take this to the "Hardware" forum!!!!

But in brief....you are on the right track!!!! A router with multiple ethernet ports, allow you to connect multiple systems to the internet. Then come the configuring, which nowdays, is ALOT simpler, and pretty much automated!!!! But in the configuration utilities of each system, you would have to designate what amount of bandwith is each individual system allowed, etc., etc.!!!!

But yeah...you looking in the right direction, and again...you need to refer to the correct forum for this question, and you'll find LOADS of help there!!!!

    Good Luck!!

A router is a small server, and it creates a computer network that works like the internet, just on a smaller scale. I've had 3 computers on my 3 Mbit cable connection (1 hardwired and 2 wireless), using a router without any problem, and had the ablility to connect a few more if I wished.
