XBOX Live causes router to crash

My roomate just got Xbox Live a couple days ago. Anyways he hooked it up to our CG814GCMR Netgear router, and periodically it will cause the whole router network to crash meaning my computer also connected to it, will lose internet for a brief period of time as well. It is very VERY frustrating and it is just a massive pain in the ***, i don't get how being on XBOX Live can cause the router itself to crash. I will get internet back after about a minute, but it's annoying.

 

Have you opened up your ports in Xbox live?

What kind of internet connection do you have? If Xbox Live eats all the bandwidth that would briefly kick you PC offline. Look into that, and into what exactly he is doing on the 360, versus what you are doing on the PC, when it happens. Find the pattern.

If it does crashing even when the PC isn't on, there's an issue between the 360 and the router. How do you have it set up right now? WEP? WPA? Unsecure? The more detail, the easier it will be to figure this out.
