XBox Rumor...

I have heard rumors that there will a be launch of the XBox360 early... As in the next couple of months... Are these rumors supported, and confirmable, or it is total BS?

As far as I know, it's not due out in the UK until about November this year. I also heard that the new games can be played on the original xbox and vice versa.

 

Why would they make it backwards compatible... The games *should* be more demanding than what the current ones are...

 

I don't think new games will play on the old system, but I think that old game should play on the new system.

From a hardware standpoint I just don't see how it can be done. The next Xbox is built using a PowerPC processor and ATI graphics. It could emulate the x86 CPU and nvidia graphics that original xbox game used, but I don't see how you can write a new game for what is basically a Mac with an ATI card an make it still work on a PC with an nvidia card. Currently I'm not even sure that most of the older games would run properly, as it's going to have to be emulation of a CISC chipset on a RISC platform. I'd love it if it happened, and if you've got any solid articles I'd appreciate a link.

 

i dont know why microsoft would make it backward compatible. Why buy a new xbox when u dont have to?

 

i heard a rumor that the new xbox is going to be 1 ghz compared to the now 333 mhz.

Since the hardware details are still being ironed out, it's hard to say how backward compatible it will be. Sounds like good marketing if it is, but how practical is it? Time will tell.

Actually, Mr.Gates pinched it from Xerox, if memory serves me correctly. He owns MAC as well nowadays, so he aint bothered either way.

Rumors get you nowhere fast. The best thing to do is look up some official sites (and sometimes "official" sites are good too), and see what is said there.

A.F.A.I.K., even the developers of the X-box haven't finnished deciding what they are going to do, so the rumor merchants aren't likely to know a lot either.

Actually by posting in unrelated threads you are forcing us to read your posts. If that wasn't your intentions you wouldn't be posting in an Xbox thread or a word association thread or a what's the most interesting thing thread. I'm a old 3dfiler guy from back in the old days. I came here when this site was started after 3dfiles went down, but quickly moved off to another site. I like to stop in every now and then.
