My younger brother nevers stays out of trouble. Time and time again, Ive warned him about what he should be doing on my machine.

And not downloading programs off of limewire was one of them.

Well he doesnt listen, and now my machine is a paperwieght. And I need help.

Im running XP pro. When booting up, it says it cant find windows. However, if i put the HD in another machine, all the files are there..so I know windows still exists on the thing... I think my BIOS got screwed up..but thats just me. Anyone have any ideas on how to get past this?

    Thanks.

well I dont see how your Bios can be screwed by a virus. You might want to try and reformat your harddrive=:(

    See how this goes.

Boot up with the XP cd inserted & boot from it. Follow the screens till you see a repair option. That should get you to a C:\prompt.

    From there type fixboot

I think that is it. You will see what you need to type for the correct switch if that is not it. Look for the one like fixboot........if you have to.

You should have a recovery partition, usually accessed by pressing thr F10 key during bootup. Check your manufacturers website or the PC manual to find out for sure.

As you can get to your files from another PC, backup your important data now!!

but if your PC is a branded one as Just Playin mentions above, do look into wether your PC has a recovery partition, using the recovery partition will remove all your saved files etc, which is why I mentioned backup now, before you try any recovery methods or steps to fix the OS install.

If you get any messages at boot, please post them here but post the error or message verbatim.
