I am reletively new to understanding such things as "adware, malware, hijackers, etc...I have succesfully removed most of it (I think), but still have trouble keeping tracking cookies from getting in. I have, and run, SpyWareBlaster, Ad-Aware SE and Window Washer. I came across Xoftspy, and found that the scanning is free, but if you want what it finds removed...that will cost you! I do not find anything in my start-up, reg cleaner, and other obvious areas for these hijackers to reside. Could it be that this may be a selling tacktic for Xoftspy? I just don't buy that my other scanners didn't find CWH, if it is in fact there.
Any advice as to a more effective approach to removing/preventing these pests, I would be very greatful.

Like you, I am very new to a lot of things to do with malware, spyware etc. So I won't be of any help to you as such but it would be interesting to read other responses as (see thread) I also had xoft come up with a trojan that none of the others have detected. The mind boggles whether this is due to make you worried and buy their software to remove threads or not.

I have never been impressed bu Xoftspy and do not recommend it. I have seen too many cases of false positives or that it reports trivial items to get you to buy it. A good program gives you a trial period that will actually fix things (like Spy Sweeperr).

If it were good, it would be available for download here on MGs. You don't need it.

If you are having problems with malware and require help, follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
