XP/2000 Problem

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on the following...

I have 3 OS's (XP, 2000, 98) on seperate hard drives and select them in BIOS. Just installed a new hard drive and was backing up some files before a major reshuffle.

I used XP to copy several gigs worth from the Win98 (FAT32) drive to the Win2000 (NTFS) drive.

I then booted into Win2000 and found these files corrupted. I went back to XP and tried to run it's Dick checker - which said it couldn't complete the task.

The next 2000 boot activated Scandisk (chkdsk?) and found thousands of orphoned files and other errors, which it fixed.

However, so did Win XP next time. It's as if 200 & XP have trouble with each other's file handling. Is there a difference between XP and 2000's NTFS's ?

The drives are new(ish). Everything else AFAIK is ok.

Mabye I am slow today, but me thinks this is where your problems lay

I do not think this is possible fat32 to ntfs (I have been wrong before )anyone ...anyone..

 

Yes there is a difference in NTFS from 2000 to XP. 2000 is NTFS4 and XP is NTFS5.

 

You can copy files from a FAT32 partition to a NTFS partition as long as you do it from 2000 or XP.
