does this still have a driver comp. issue or is this just as safe and easy to setup/use as the 32 bit?

    Hi

Depending on hardware age then many companies support it, but when reviewing this earlier this year, when chatting to others thinking of going XP x64 or Vista x64, the concenus was to go Vista x64 as more drivers where available.

I would do some research on all your hardware and check makers for drivers for XP64 and decide from there, if all drivers are avail, then go for it, pronally I would go Vista x64 as its simple to setup, but XP64 is not real different in setup to the x86 version.

Also check your favoured software for 64bit compatability (may need to download the specific x64 versions of some), most current software is but as we all have some older favs, you never know.

some good advice, however no way am i going to vista ive used it before and i feel it is a terrible OS, it has so much eye candy and these litttle features u totally dont need that just slows u down, turn all that off and what u got is windows 98

i have new mainstream hardware id think they would have the drivers for it, but what about compatibility between software, like the OS and say some random program like winrar does that issue come up as well?

Back in the day many said same about XP :)

Winrar works fine in my current x64 OS, which is a pre-beta Windows 7 x64 so would have no issues I woudl feel in XP x64, in some cases some software has specific x64 and x86 downloads so just need to double check your current favorite apps, most tend to install fine as x64 OSes have two Program Files and Registries to cope with compatability.

I agree with Halo on XP64. I built my first rig so that I could run it. I waited for software and drivers to come out and waited and waited and waited some more. Luckily, Longhorn/Vista betas came out and I could finally justify the expense of a 64 bit rig, well sort of. ;)

I still dual boot Vista with XP and on the rare occasion that I need something from that install, it looks dated and cartoonish in looks and function. I'll be redoing my setup to Vista only in a couple of months when I have absolutely nothing else to do.

Don't get me wrong, XP is still a good OS and will be for quite some time but its best days are behind it IMO.
