XP and 98 Network

Hope someone can help....I have two computers that are linked together....but they will not see one another....I have cable modem and each can access the internet with no problem. The problem is I need access to the files on the 98 when using my XP...but I can't see the computer at all!!!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated....Thanks! Merry Christmas to All!!!

 

If you have firewall running on your PC's turn em off that would block your connection
Try to ping.

 

Do you have sharing enabled? you have to then allow each folder to be shared. How are they linked?I have same setup here. XP on wireless laptop looking at Win98SE on desktop.

followed the directions and i was up and running in just a few minutes this is what you need to pay attention two:
Windows XP Note: NetBEUI is no longer installed on your hard drive by default. To proceed with this tutorial, you will need to copy the following files from your XP CD on to your hard drive
#1) copy nbf.sys into the %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ directory
#2) copy netnbf.inf into the %SYSTEMROOT%\INF\ directory(both these are in your windows folder)
thats what fixed my problem and i' sure it will fix yours
