XP and Vista recycle bin files not showing on opposite OS?

If you switch operating system with a removable or external drive, do you end up with more than one recycle bin? I now have "Recycled" and "Recycler" on more than one disk that I used on two different systems.

What impact will it have, if you do have two different 'systems' of recycle bin? I remember clearly that I deleted something just before removing one disk from the Vista machine but now I can't see it to remove from the recycle bin. So I don't know if it's still on the disk somewhere or if I did empty the recycle but I don't think so. It was only a text file this time so it doesn't matter size-wise but I'm concerned if I delete something large and forget to empty the recycle next time I'm using a Vista machine, I'll find myself with a large file I can't get rid of, since my few experiences with Vista suggest XP may not be able to override some form of permissions Vista set on the deleted files.

I've been googling for information but haven't been able to find anything relevant.

 

Each OS you use creates its own set of recycle bins and won't recognise those created by other OSs. So if you delete something in XP you can't restore it in Vista, and vice versa.

That's not the smartest design I ever saw! If you normally use a particular OS and pop over to a friend's, use theirs and then come home, how do you get rid of any files you forgot to empty from the recycle bin? Can you simply delete the recycle folders created by the other OS?

 

I would guess you can but I'm certainly not going to try it. When you boot back into the other OS you might encounter problems and certainly wouldn't be able to recover anything you find you need again.
