I want to buy an XP Home Edition CD, but when I search online I see that theres an OEM version, an Upgrade version, and a full version, whats the difference?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version is for those who buy a custom pc. Like a DELL, HP, or buy custom parts to build their own computer.

Upgrade, is when once to upgrade from 98 to XP. (HIGHLY recommend installing a fresh copy, which still can be down with an upgrade cd, BUT, you MUST have proof, by inserting the win98/ME/2k cd to confirm this).

Full version, just that, no need to worry about a previous version to upgrade.

OEM versions also only do clean installs, not upgrades, even with prior version media. I believe there is a rebate available on XP Home Upgrade right now. I saw a deal site post something about a $70 rebate and an Office Depot coupon resulting in a net price of $10.

The only difference between OEM & Full version is a pretty box & Three free phone calls for support

Save a few bucks buy the OEM, or if the deal is on Upgrade, upgrade version if you have a qualifying earlier version of Windows.
You should & can do a clean install even from an Upgrade version.

Support is free here at MG, unlimited
