Found a Trojan on Winxp service pack 2, and now my cd-rom drivers are " missing or corrupt". Will downloading the drivers again solve the prob.?

    Hi

If you have malware on your PC then it needs to be cleaned out, and if you have run tests already and have cleaned the malware up it maybe still wise to run the guide I will post below, as some malware files may still be on yoru PC and causing this.

But try this first to see if you can clear up the cdrom drivers being missing or corrupt.

    1. In Device Manager, open the CDROM drives secrion and right click and uninstall the driver then reboot and windows re-installs the drivers automatically as they are default drivers.

    2. Try this info How to fix missing DVD/CD drives not showing up in windows explorer

Malware guide and start new thread in malware area of forum and attach logs

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

After these are attached our malware experts will review these to see if your OK, if not they will issue you some further removal instructions.
