XP changed Windows Explorer

    I am used to XP changing my Icons on desktop but this one is a??? Suddenly my explorer interface has the Icons for a folder jammed up against the left hand side with no division in the window that shows the size of the drive or folder or offers other options ... how can I correct this & avoid this sort of instant unexpected change in the future? :rolleyes:
    I'm running XP-home on a built AMD-3000 w/ 1084ram MSI mobo

    What happens when you click on the Folders button at the top?

    Tools > Folder Options and tick Show Common Tasks is Folders > Apply
