xp crashes

my brother haves this problem: since he installed service pack 2 for winxp pro, his pc crashes frequently*, i had this problem too, but we found a patch (from microsoft itselves) but we don't have that patch anymore, and my brother has formatted his hdd and reinstalled windows again in the meanwhile so he haves the problem again.

*(frequently= almost everytime he boots up and regulary when the pc is running)

do you guys have any solution for this, or do you accidentially have the name of this patch or the patch itselves??

if XP is crashing after SP2 is installed it could be due to incompatible drivers or software that is installed on the system. Now, since he wiped the drive and did a fresh install, it's more likely that it's a driver conflict. I would seek updates to drivers for all devices in the system.
