Hi Friends com has a really weird problem and he asked me to help so I said I would post here if i get stumped which I am. This all occured about a month ago when he tried to connect to internet, all had previously been OK, com only 12 months old Just over PC World return policy.
On boot when XP loaded a message box appears saying 'Insert CD Rom with Virtual Truck programme looking for file' So I put the disc in containg the file and then a box appears saying 'Notice VTruck has encountered a problem and needs to close'. This goes on continually. The Vtruck is the executable file to load his internet Provider NTL. They have tested his connection and alls well till it reaches computer so obviously therein lies the trouble. Uninstalled the NTL prog/Tried a different Ethernet card/ System Restore . (I syst restored before the first error report in event viewer which was 'Service Control Manager') /scanned for viruses/with ethernet cable connected/unconnected. Cannot do a Repair as OS an OEM so no accompanying XP disc was included in computer package. So with No ISP prog installed why is it asking for this file (VTruck.exe) any ideas fellow Geeks ??

A further update to this is I found a reference on MS site and followed instructions and completely deleted ALL references to the VTruck in Registry/Startup/files folders but when I insert disc to install the same appears plz put in disc for Vtruck.exe. This is not a Windows installer issue as i can install other progs, maybe this will jog someones memory.

OK resolved... had to completly rid computer of all reference to Vtruck/Vtruckdbg/Vtruck.exe in safe mode. It took several attempts and reboots to resolve but that started another issue when that was cleared as still not connecting to internet even though ping packages sent and returned. This was due to 2 corrupt Winsock files in registry, this was fixed by identiffying/deleting and rebooting allowing XP to reallocate and all works fine now.. hope this will help others with similar problem :)
