   My XP box started hanging. As long as I was actively using the machine it worked OK, but if I left it unattended for a few minutes it would hang up & I could only get it to work using a hard reboot.
   Now it is hung at the XP splash screen & I can't get it past there even trying safe mode.

   Well, I'm trying to reinstall the OS right now, but it has been hung at a "please wait" screen for a couple of hours now.
