hi, i have not been able to connect to the internet connected with a lan line on my windows xp. i tried to get help from other forums reading to start a service that was not running (DHCP CLIENT), but i get an error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. i think it means that NetBT has to be started, but that is nowhere to be found. I tried some things with the Windows Xp installer disk but didnt work. and i have tried to system restore but that doesnt work either for all the restore points. in all this stuff has been checked in safemode also. I am stuck and i need help please.

thanks for tryin FalconAttack but i dont have those symptoms described. I tried it anyway but it didnt work. The problem I has is when i try to start the DHCP Client service it does not start and in the Events Viewer log it says "The DHCP Client service depends on the following nonexistent service:NetBT". I still need help :(

As you stated, NetBT is required in order for DHCP to start.

Were you infected with a rootkit recently? There are some now that are able to delete the registry keys and driver files required for internet.

Attached is a registry file for Windows XP to reinstall the NetBT service.

    ========WARNING========
The below is specifically for dougdarby10's computer
Do NOT run the below if you are not dougdarby10
Doing so may damage your PC!
    ========WARNING========

    Attached is netbt.zip

    Inside is:
    • netbt.reg

Extract netbt.reg to your desktop and then double-click it. Allow it to merge into the registry and then reboot your PC. Now see if you are able to start the DHCP service. It may already be started after the reboot.

If you still have trouble, complete the below:

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/8120/fss.gif Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

    Check "Include All Files" option.
    Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please attach FSS.txt to your next message. (How to attach)

    Can you try the below:

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/9017/regedit.gif Copy the bold text below to Notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "All files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If successful, reboot and try connecting.

the operation was a success! but the patient died:cry...so the saying goes. i got the success confirmation then i restarted the computer and still no connection. and then i tried to start DHCP but the Error 1068 is still there. Next step? Do u want me show u the event manager's log (but not sure how to make it into a transferable and viewable file)?

I have a feeling the key is locked but I would like to try to rebuild the netbt key first.

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/9017/regedit.gif Copy the text in the below code box into Notepad. Save it as netbt2.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "All files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

the registry merge was a success, but still same error codes. TCP/IP is now showing up on the Services page as "Simple TCP/IP Services" and is able to be started. I dont know if this is useful but TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper has never been able to start since the connection problem started (keeps giving the same error code as DHCP. And still no NetBT in the Services page or anything that looks like it(not sure what the description name is on the Services page).

Ok so now it's a another error number but there is a bit more information on it.

    Try this:

Try merging the below legacy_netbt.reg file I have attached to this message by double-clicking it. You should receive a successful message

    Then reboot your PC.

Then test your internet, if you find that it is still not working.. run the below commands from the command prompt:
Let me know the output of each one

    • net start netbt
    • sc qc netbt
    • net start dhcp

the legacy_netbt.reg wont merge. i get a "cannot import c:\documents and settings\kobe24\desktop\legacy_netbt.reg: error accessing the registry." error. i did not go ahead with the other steps.

By the way, if you want to cleanup the files/folders MGtools put on your PC - just run the following file:
    • C:\MGtools\MGclean.bat
This will remove all traces of MGtools.
